Beef prices are high right now—but what’s really driving it? Jamie breaks it down:
👉 The U.S. cattle herd is the smallest it’s been in 70+ years
👉 Farmland is disappearing as older farmers sell out
👉 Farmers are taking big risks today for harvests two years away
If you’re spending more on beef, make it count. Choose beef that’s raised here in the US by farmers you can trust.
When you choose Hickory Nut Gap, you’re supporting regional family farms, rebuilding the domestic cattle supply, and bringing healthy, 100% grassfed beef to your table.

One year ago today, Hurricane Helene swept across Western NC and beyond, leaving behind devastation unlike anything our region had ever faced. Lives were lost, homes destroyed, businesses uprooted, and daily life came to a halt as we all struggled to find the path forward—whether by rushing to help neighbors in need, navigating our own losses, or both.
Our farm suffered damage and closed for several weeks, but we were fortunate that our wholesale business remained operational. With the support of our community and partners, we donated over 1,800 lbs of meat to aid organizations like @wckitchen and another 1,200 lbs in partnership with @equipfoods to @silveradosmusicpark, who became a vital hub of meals, showers, and supplies for so many.
Thanks to the generosity of our community, our GoFundMe raised more than $100,000. This support not only helped us recover from losses not covered by insurance but also ensured we could continue paying our employees during the Farm Store’s closure and begin restoring our land and facilities.
Last year, our community generously donated 120 of our pasture raised turkeys to families in need following the hurricane. This year, turkeys are available again for donation as many people continue to recover. All turkeys are provided by us to @manna_foodbank, @foothillsfoodhub, and @southsidecommunityfarm.
In the midst of the grief and upheaval, the strength, generosity, and care of this community shone through. We are deeply grateful for the way neighbors came together to support one another—and that spirit of generosity continues to inspire hope today.

It’s officially turkey time! We are now accepting deposits for our pasture raised turkeys. Each year our farmers work spring through fall to raise two healthy, happy flocks. This year, we are making an effort to offer a wider range of sizes to our customers. Our first batch came in around 16–19 lbs each, and we are aiming to get our second batch between 13–16 lbs.
To order your turkey, make a non-refundable $20 deposit in the link in our bio. We are also taking orders for pasture raised hams!
