Learning from his mother and grandmother, he was cooking by age 4 with his family every Sunday for big gatherings.
Tyler was born in Asheville but grew up in Marion, NC. Surrounded by older folk who came to the beautiful town to retire, Tyler is definitely an old soul in a young man’s body.
He has always been playing music, he participated in Battle of the Bands several times during middle school, high school and afterwards. He taught himself how to play guitar, bass, drums, keys, banjo and mandolin.
The first time he remembers thinking he wanted to cook for a living was when he got to visit in Asheville and try a real Indian Curry. His first cooking job was My Father’s Pizza in Black Mountain- its where he got his feet wet so to speak. He moved to Asheville and started working downtown- he’s worked at Bar Taco, 131 Main and Isis Music Hall- it was at this time that his music took off and he started playing a lot of shows. He also taught himself how to produce!
Tyler had come here to the farm in the Fall season the year before because he tried our meat and was impressed. During his excursion he had the best burger he’d ever eaten and a wonderful experience. A half a year later when he saw a job posting, he jumped at the opportunity to cook with us.
His favorite part about working here is being excited to come in and see what’s on tap for the day. He loves the products, he loves getting creative in the kitchen and making new things.
Tyler’s entire life outside of work consists of his partner Mary and music. 30 hours a week writing, playing and producing. In all things he does Tyler shows dedication: whether it is people, music or food.
