Gabriela Jiminez-Bermingham is a dual language teacher from Buncombe County Schools. She has been collaborating with a nonprofit organization called, Mathkind, since 2017. This organization works to design training programs for teachers using evidence-based resources to provide professional development in math for schools in underdeveloped countries. They also help fund teacher travel opportunities to these schools in other countries to allow for different teachers to collaborate during these professional development trips.

Gabriela has been connected to one of these schools in Atitlan, Guatemala since 2017. Her dual language students interact virtually with other students from one of these schools in Guatemala and participate in projects and video chats. This year, Mathkind is helping her fund this year’s teacher travel trip to the school she has been collaborating with since 2017 by helping to sell beautiful handmade artifacts that come from Guatemala, Nepal and Kenya. Gabriela will be selling her items pop-up shop style in our Cabana this Saturday, May 20th from 11-3pm. All proceeds from the sales help fund her teacher trip for professional development in Atitlan, Guatemala this summer!
